To be clear, I’m not a blind follower of Mar Roxas. I’m just not buying the bashing he’s been getting in the blogosphere and twitterverse lately. The guy is running for the presidency which is the highest and one of the most important and influential positions in our government. We should be treating the issues with a little more respect, a lot less superficiality, and a little more critical thinking. This isn’t American Idol. It’s the future of our nation we’re talking about.
OK, so I must admit: that ‘Ramdam ko kayo’ ad of his was way too melodramatic, even corny. Insincere? Maybe not. After all, it does align well with the work that he’s done in his various posts. Think of the following bills he’s pushed:
- Senate Bill No. 103 (Individual Tax Exemption for Minimum Wage Earners Bill)
- Senate Bill No. 101 (Affordable Medicines)
- Senate Bill No. 102 (EVAT Funds for Education and Healthcare)
There’s more in this Wikipedia page (Please don’t give me any flak for citing a Wikipedia page. We’ve known for some time now that it’s just as accurate as Encyclopedia Brittanica). From what I’m seeing, it seems that the ad was supposed to be metaphorical in some way. But metaphors can be easily misunderstood and taken literally.
Now, regarding his crass language during an inter-faith rally, I must admit that it was poor form and while it’s a tall order to justify such language, I can understand his anger. Tell me this, being an ordinary citizen, aren’t you angry at the way GMA is currently performing, especially with the latest news? Now imagine yourself a high-ranking government official who has worked for most of your political career to fight for your country, having to face GMA’s same performance. Wouldn’t you be multiple times more angry than you are now? Like I said, I understand his anger and how it may have pushed him to such crass language.
Does this make him trapo? Well first of all, what does trapo mean? According to Double Tounged Dictionary, it means “a traditional politician believed to be corrupt.” Which of the above makes him corrupt exactly? Am I missing something?
What else is there to consider about him? Go ahead and comment. I sincerely want to understand. I want my vote on 2010 to be an informed one, not based on heresay and superficial observations.
Here are the slides I used during my talk this afternoon.

Hi there. I just recently moved my blog from technopreneurship.wordpress.com to this new location. If you find some of the links still pointing to the old blog, forgive me. I still need to find the time to clean everything up. I’ll try to clean all of them up as soon as humanly possible.
Thanks for visiting!
“When you’re only surrounded by people who speak the same vocabulary as you or share the same set of assumptions as you, you start to think that that’s reality”
– Emily Levine, TEDTalks 2002
Is entrepreneurship really as glamorous as people make it out to be? I ask this question because all too often when I hear someone talk about starting a business or advocating entrepreneurship, they make it sound as if entrepreneurship or starting one’s own business is THE utopia all of us are looking for.
But is it?
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not tryig to discourage anyone, but I think it’s worth a think before you jump into the deep end. Consider your reasons for going into business. If it’s because you want something more glamorous than your 8 to 5 job, better think again.
How many entrepreneurial gatherings do we have in Davao? I’m talking about those types of gatherings where individuals meet up and try to share ideas that can potentially lead to new ventures. How often do they happen and where? I’d like to try and take stock of all these events to get an understanding of what’s missing and what we can improve on in terms of the entrepreneurial spirit of the place.
